    Pile Testing

SOCOTEC specialises in pile and foundation testing that reduces project risk while keeping costs down. Using proven technology to test all pile types — concrete, steel, or timber — during installation, our team delivers immediate, actionable results, with capacity to carry out up to 30 tests per day.

    Our pile testing services include:

    • Dynamic Drive Analysis Testing — carried out during impact pile driving of preformed concrete, steel tubular, steel 'H' and timber piles; provides real-time data on soil resistance, hammer performance, dynamic pile stresses and pile integrity
    • Dynamic Re-strike Testing — economically evaluates piled foundations (typically 10–20% of installed piles), using CAPWAP modelling to assess shaft-to-toe resistance and simulate static load curves
    • Crush Barrier Testing — qualifies crush barriers and handrails at stadia and sports grounds to "Guide to Safety and Sports Grounds" (5th edition) standards
    • Pile Integrity Testing (PIT) — non-destructive evaluation of pile length and integrity for forensic assessment or new-build quality assurance
    • Thermal Integrity Profiling (TIP) — uses curing heat to assess drilled shafts, bored/CFA piles, jet grouting, slurry and diaphragm walls, with cloud-based remote data evaluation
    • Crosshole Sonic Logging (CSL) — verifies structural integrity of drilled shafts using ultrasonic pulse velocity readings between access tubes
    • Ground Anchor Testing — testing of ground, anti-flotation and tie-back anchors (including GFRP), with load capacity up to 5000kN
    • Automated Static Load Testing — in-house designed systems for unattended compression/tension testing, compliant with international codes and ICE SPERW 2017

    Civil Engineering

SOCOTEC delivers specialised ground engineering solutions including micropiles, slope stabilisation, and self-drilling anchors. We manage challenging ground conditions with micropile systems up to 324mm diameter, comprehensive slope stabilisation through soil nailing and rock bolts, and versatile anchor installations for new-build and structural strengthening projects.

    Our civil engineering services include:

    • Micropiles — small-diameter (up to 324mm) drilled and grouted piles for compression or tension, suited to all ground conditions, including self-drill and down-the-hole variants
    • Slope Stabilisation — rock bolts and soil nails to stabilise exposed rock faces, cuttings, tunnels and bridges, finished with hard, flexible or soft facing solutions
    • Ground Anchors — active or passive, temporary or permanent (up to 120-year design life with Double Corrosion Protection), available as solid thread bars, hollow bars, strand anchors, removable strand anchors and GFRP cuttable bar anchors
    • Anchor Installation — via rotary percussive (top hammer) or down-the-hole hammer drilling, tailored to ground stability and depth requirements

FAQ's

Pile testing is the process of checking that foundation piles have been installed correctly and can safely support the loads they're designed for. It helps confirm pile integrity and gives engineers and contractors the data needed to make confident decisions during construction.

SOCOTEC provides infrastructure testing and engineering services nationwide, covering both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Infrastructure and pile testing in Ireland and the UK is typically carried out in line with recognised codes and standards, such as ICE SPERW 2017  for ground anchors, and the "Guide to Safety and Sports Grounds" (5th edition) for crush barrier testing.

Yes. Testing and assessment services can support both new construction quality assurance and forensic evaluation of existing structures, piles and pavements.

We're here to support all of your Infrastructure needs.
