Whether you are designing a new building, assessing an existing one or working through a complex safety challenge, SOCOTEC Ireland's engineering team provides the technical expertise to support you at every stage.
Engineering projects rarely fail because of a shortage of ambition. They run into difficulty when technical complexity, regulatory requirements and design accountability converge without the right expertise on hand.
Structural concerns identified late in a project. A fire safety strategy that doesn't hold up under scrutiny. A façade that performs poorly or presents safety risks years after construction. These are not unusual problems, but they are avoidable ones, with the right advisory input from the outset.

Talk to our experts
Our engineering team works across four specialist disciplines: structural engineering, fire engineering, façade engineering and acoustic engineering. Each service can be engaged independently or as part of a broader project brief.

Why choose SOCOTEC?

Qualified Expertise
Our engineers hold recognised professional qualifications across structural, fire, façade and acoustic engineering and bring direct experience of complex projects across Ireland.

Independent technical perspective
We provide technically accurate, impartial and evidence-based advice to developers, designers, contractors, asset owners and other project stakeholders. This may include reviewing designs produced by others, investigating defects or providing an independent assessment of safety and performance.

Cross-discipline capability
Structural concerns, fire safety questions and façade performance issues rarely sit in isolation. Our team's breadth means we can identify where disciplines intersect and advise accordingly without you needing to manage multiple disconnected consultants.

Practical outcomes, not just reports
We understand that engineering advice needs to translate into action. Our team provides clear, prioritised recommendations that project teams and decision-makers can act on, not findings buried in technical language.
Supporting Engineering Projects Across Ireland
Ireland's built environment presents specific engineering challenges. Older building stock, the prevalence of traditional and mixed construction methods, high rainfall and a growing emphasis on retrofit and refurbishment all create technical demands that require informed, experienced engineering input.
Our team understands the Irish context, the standards, the building types and the practical realities of delivering projects here. We work with clients across the country, providing technical support that is grounded in that understanding.
We support projects that involve:
- New residential and commercial developments
- Refurbishment and retrofit of existing buildings
- Infrastructure and industrial assets
- Heritage and protected structures
- Public sector and healthcare facilities
Who We Work With We work with clients across a wide range of sectors and roles:
Property developers and investors
Architects and design teams
Main contractors and specialist subcontractors
Asset managers and facilities managers
Local authorities and public sector bodies
Healthcare organisations
Legal professionals and insurers requiring expert witness support
FAQs
We work across a broad range of building types, new residential and commercial developments, older and heritage buildings, healthcare facilities, industrial and infrastructure assets, and public sector buildings. If you are unsure whether your project falls within our scope, contact us and we will advise.
Yes. A significant part of our structural and façade engineering work involves independent design assurance, third-party checking and client-side advisory, reviewing and verifying designs produced by others. This is particularly valuable for clients who want an independent perspective on technical quality and compliance.
Yes. Our fire engineering team works on both new and existing buildings. For existing buildings, this includes retrospective fire safety strategies, façade fire safety reviews and fire risk appraisals of external walls. We also support clients in assessing buildings against current fire safety requirements.
A façade fire safety assessment examines the construction, materials and detailing of an existing external wall where there is uncertainty about its fire performance. This may include reviewing cladding, insulation, sheathing, cavity barriers, firestopping and interfaces with windows, balconies and compartment floors.
The appropriate form of assessment will depend on the building, its use and the reason the advice is required. Where appropriate, SOCOTEC can undertake a Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls using the PAS 9980 methodology, alongside consideration of applicable Irish Building Regulations, guidance and project-specific requirements.
Yes. We provide expert witness and advisory services across structural, fire and façade engineering disciplines. Our engineers produce detailed, evidence-based reports and can attend court, arbitration or adjudication proceedings where required.
Start by telling us about your project or the issue you are facing. Our team will advise on the most appropriate service - whether that is a structural review, a fire safety assessment, a façade inspection or something that draws on more than one discipline. Contact us directly and we will point you in the right direction.
Tell us what you are working on and we will advise on the most appropriate support.
If you have a project, a technical question or a concern about a building, we are straightforward to reach.
